Wednesday, 7 October 2026. This is what changed between Tuesday's close and this morning, taken from public data and news reports. It is a list of events and numbers, not a view on where the market goes next: I don't publish levels, targets or trade ideas.

Tuesday's session is covered in the post-market report for 6 October.

For 6 October, 5paisa, which publishes NSE's provisional data, shows foreign institutional investors (FIIs) as net sellers of ₹2,961.30 crore in the cash market and domestic institutional investors (DIIs) as net buyers of ₹5,088.90 crore. On 5 October FIIs had sold a net ₹4,699.10 crore.

RBI policy decision today

The Reserve Bank of India's Monetary Policy Committee has been meeting since Monday, and its decision is due today, 7 October. At its last meeting, held from 3 to 5 August, it kept the repo rate at 5.25%, according to GoldenPi. I have not seen the decision yet; it will be in this evening's post-market report.

S&P 500 and Nasdaq close at records

Reuters, via Yahoo Finance, reported that the S&P 500 rose 0.58% to 7,818.95 and the Nasdaq Composite 0.45% to 27,599.79 on Tuesday, both record closes. The Dow added 0.49% and is still about 5% below its 5 August record. Yahoo Finance reported that Nvidia and AMD reached all-time highs, and that Nvidia, Apple and Microsoft together now make up more than 21% of the S&P 500. Constellation Energy rose 13% after Alphabet signed a 20-year agreement, worth $4.3 billion, to buy power from 890 megawatts of its nuclear capacity.

Oil holds near $100 as yields ease

Brent settled slightly higher at about $100.6 a barrel on Tuesday and WTI rose 1 cent to $89.44, Reuters reported. Trading Economics said Brent had fallen to $97.8 earlier in the session before recovering. The 10-year Treasury yield fell 2.7 basis points to 5.28%, and the dollar index fell 0.3%. A separate Reuters report linked the steadier oil price to the G7 agreement to release emergency stocks, covered in yesterday's note.

Today's calendar

I have not checked today's IPO listings or other results, so I am not listing any.

What I check at 9:00

These are the data points I look at before the open, not a forecast:

  1. Where GIFT Nifty is at 9:00 compared with the 22,677.50 in this note.
  2. Whether NSE's own page confirms the 6 October FII and DII figures.
  3. The RBI's policy statement once it is published.

Questions people ask me

What is the repo rate?

The repo rate is the interest rate at which the Reserve Bank of India lends short-term money to banks against government securities. The RBI's Monetary Policy Committee sets it, and it held the rate at 5.25% at its August 2026 meeting.

What is a power purchase agreement?

A power purchase agreement is a long-term contract under which a buyer agrees to purchase electricity from a generator at agreed terms, often for 10 to 25 years. Large data-centre operators use them to secure a steady supply of power.
