All three main US indices closed lower. Tuesday's 1.60% rise in the Nifty is in the post-market report for 13 October.

Most of GIFT Nifty's move came on Tuesday evening: from 22,846 at 3:30 PM it was at 22,740 by 10:30 PM, a fall of 106 points. Since it reopened at 6:30 this morning it has stayed between 22,736 and 22,779. It is a futures contract, so it does not compare directly with the index: at 3:30 PM on Tuesday it was 124.05 points above the Nifty's close of 22,721.95, and at 8:05 AM it was 43.55 points above it. (How far GIFT Nifty can be relied on.)
I could not source Hong Kong or South Korean index figures this morning, so neither is in the table.
Brent rises to $106.59 after a reported strike on Saudi Aramco
Brent was $104.59 a barrel on Tuesday evening, down 1.93% on the day, PTI reported. This morning it was $106.59, and Trading Economics said it had recovered the previous session's loss.
The reason Trading Economics gave is fighting between Saudi Arabia and Yemen's Houthis. It reported that a Houthi missile hit Saudi Aramco's headquarters in Dhahran, that Riyadh's main airport was targeted, and that a Saudi-led coalition has begun an offensive in Yemen. It also said Tehran has stepped up attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. I have this from Trading Economics alone and could not find a second report this morning.
Two things held the rise back, by the same account: the US helped more than 19 million barrels of crude through the strait, and President Donald Trump defended the diesel export agreement with Russia, saying the extra supply would ease prices.
The US 10-year yield was 5.21%. Trading Economics said it has held above 5.2% as bond investors weigh the effect of energy prices on inflation and the amount of debt technology companies are expected to issue.
Chip shares fell again in New York, and so did all four banks that reported
The Dow lost 180.45 points to close at 51,670.10, the S&P 500 slipped 1.79 points to 7,805.45 and the Nasdaq Composite fell 41.52 points to 27,204.38, according to the news-agency tally carried by La Nación. That tally said company earnings were ahead of expectations and that Treasury yields eased after oil prices fell.
Chip shares added to Monday's losses. Applied Materials fell 7.2%, Micron 4.6%, Lam Research 3.2% and SanDisk 1.7%, which Trading Economics put down to concern over spending on AI and competition from China.
The four banks that reported on Tuesday all ended lower, though by very different amounts: Citigroup fell 5.3% and Wells Fargo 2.6%, while JPMorgan lost 0.3% and Goldman Sachs 0.1%. Johnson & Johnson fell 5.6%.
Tokyo went the other way this morning. The Nikkei 225 was at 68,166, up 0.57% after four falling sessions. Taiyo Yuden was up 5.1%, SoftBank Group 2.6%, Lasertec 2.5% and Kioxia 2.2%; Kioxia had been down 9.3% on Tuesday morning. Trading Economics cited an easing of the selling in technology shares, remarks by New York Fed President John Williams and lower Treasury yields.

Nifty IT rose 5.22% after HCLTech's results, with HCLTech itself up 8.42%, and in the afternoon the finance minister said the government would hear views on long-term capital gains tax without announcing any change. Index figures are from Zerodha Kite market data. The rupee's close is PTI's provisional figure, against 95.78 on Monday; it has gained on three days running, 150 paise in all. (What India VIX measures.)
Foreign institutional investors were net sellers of ₹1,305.10 crore in the cash market on Tuesday (gross purchases ₹13,465.40 crore, sales ₹14,770.50 crore), according to 5paisa, which publishes NSE's provisional data. That is the smallest figure of the six sessions since 6 October, which add up to ₹28,608.80 crore of net selling. HDFC Sky counted Monday as the 12th selling session in a row, which makes Tuesday the 13th. Domestic institutions were net buyers of ₹2,439.20 crore. (How to read FII and DII data.)
Two company disclosures since the close
An order from the Additional Commissioner of CGST, Noida, cut the GST demand on First Games Technology, a subsidiary of One 97 Communications (Paytm), to ₹703.66 crore from the ₹5,712 crore proposed, Sahi reported. Sahi said the parent had already written its investment in First Games down to nil.
Bharat Electronics disclosed ₹533 crore of orders received since its previous disclosure on 17 September, also according to Sahi.
