Foreign buying returns as domestic funds sell
NSE's provisional figures show foreign institutions bought ₹24,517.60 crore of shares on Tuesday and sold ₹20,277.30 crore. Their gross purchases were more than two and a half times Monday's ₹9,324.90 crore. Domestic institutions went the other way, selling a net ₹1,250.00 crore after Monday's net purchase of ₹2,609.60 crore (how to read FII and DII data).
None of that moved the headline index. The Nifty closed 3.45 points lower and the Sensex 8.08 lower, while Bank Nifty gave up 391.80 points.

The rupee settled at a provisional 95.12 to the dollar after moving between 95.09 and 95.24, PTI reported, crediting likely Reserve Bank intervention. Monday's final close was 95.15, which is the base for the 3-paise gain; the 95.22 quoted here yesterday was Monday's provisional figure.
Brent climbs back above $115
Brent was $115.56 a barrel this morning, up $1.68 (1.47%), and WTI $101.14, up 1.24%, according to Trading Economics, which linked the rise to reports that the US had encouraged Gulf states to prepare for possible military action against Iran after the US midterm elections, and to a drop of about 2 million barrels in US crude inventories in the week to 23 October. PTI, in its rupee report on Tuesday, cited Houthi attacks on Saudi Arabia's oil infrastructure as a reason crude had risen during the Indian session.
The US 10-year Treasury yield was 5.025% on Trading Economics' quote this morning.
AI shares carry Wall Street and Tokyo
The S&P 500 and Nasdaq rose for a second day even though most S&P 500 stocks fell, the Associated Press reported. Broadcom gained after announcing a financing deal that gives Anthropic access to its AI chips, and the influence of the large AI companies outweighed the rest. JetBlue and Royal Caribbean rose after their quarterly results; Boeing and Hilton fell after theirs. Treasury yields held steady ahead of the Federal Reserve's decision on Wednesday.
| US index | Tuesday 27 October close | Change |

GIFT Nifty has barely traded this morning
Kite's data shows GIFT Nifty resuming at 7:18 AM at 22,637, dipping to 22,625.5 and then printing 22,712 at 7:29 AM. It had not traded again by 8:12 AM, so the 37.5-point gap to Tuesday's 3:30 PM level of 22,749.5 rests on one thin print. The overnight session had ended near 22,699. Read the gap with that in mind (how much weight GIFT Nifty can carry).
